# Laboratory Diagnostics & Blood Test Analysis

**Laboratory diagnostics** are not an afterthought in my practice; they are the foundation. Before we talk about prevention, fasting, or changing the way you eat, I want to know where your body actually stands. Two things are decisive here: the **right selection** of values, matched to your history and the question at hand, and the **physician’s interpretation in context**. A single value says little; how it interacts with your symptoms, your phase of life, and your other values says a great deal.

## Which values can be examined?

Depending on the question, I put together your laboratory profile individually – for example from:

- **Basic diagnostics** – full blood count, liver, kidney, and electrolyte values, blood glucose and long-term blood glucose (HbA1c)
- **Metabolism & cardiovascular** – a differentiated lipid profile (LDL, HDL and non-HDL cholesterol, apolipoprotein B, triglycerides, lipoprotein(a) once for risk classification), fasting insulin and the HOMA index to assess insulin sensitivity, uric acid, hsCRP
- **Thyroid** – TSH, free thyroid hormones (fT3, fT4), thyroid antibodies, for example where Hashimoto’s thyroiditis is suspected
- **Inflammation & immune system** – inflammatory markers (including hsCRP), and targeted further diagnostics where autoimmune processes are suspected; with a known autoimmune condition – lichen sclerosus, psoriasis, or rheumatoid arthritis, for example – see [support for autoimmune conditions](/en/services/autoimmune-conditions/)
- **Vitamins & micronutrients** – e.g. vitamin D, vitamin B12, folate, ferritin (iron stores), zinc, selenium, magnesium
- **Hormonal questions** – diagnostics related to the menstrual cycle and phase of life, particularly in women’s health

Not every value is useful for every person – and more is not automatically better. Which tests will genuinely tell us something in your case is something we discuss beforehand; that selection is as much a part of good medical practice as the interpretation.

## How does the laboratory work?

1. **Preliminary consultation** – we clarify the question and put your profile together
2. **Blood draw at the practice** – the analysis is carried out by a specialist medical laboratory
3. **Results consultation** – you do not receive an uncommented table but an understandable explanation: what stands out, what it means, and what follows from it
4. **Consequences** – concrete recommendations, monitoring intervals or, where needed, further specialist evaluation

## I already have results – can we work with those?

Yes, absolutely. Please do bring existing laboratory results, doctors’ letters, and previous findings – they spare you duplicate testing and make trends visible that a single measurement cannot show.

## What does laboratory diagnostics cost?

Physician services and laboratory analyses are billed under the German medical fee schedule (GOÄ); the laboratory costs depend on the agreed profile. You receive a written cost overview before the blood draw – details under [fees & reimbursement](/en/fees/).
