Osteopathic Medicine in Potsdam
Osteopathic medicine from a physician’s hands means your osteopathic treatment and your medical assessment come from the same person. As a physician with five years of part-time osteopathic training, I can combine both – a thorough medical appraisal of your complaints and the manual treatment itself. Where further investigation is needed, I recognise it and arrange it, instead of treating around it.
What is osteopathy?
Osteopathy is a manual form of examination and treatment. From an osteopathic perspective, the hands are used to locate and treat restrictions of tension and movement – above all in the musculoskeletal system and in the interplay of muscles and fascia.
Why see a physician for osteopathy?
- Diagnosis first. Before the first osteopathic treatment comes the medical examination – with the question of whether your complaints are amenable to osteopathic treatment at all, or should first be investigated differently. If questions about your general health come up along the way, treatment can be combined with a preventive health check-up.
- One point of contact. Findings, medical judgement, treatment and – where necessary – referral to specialists all come from one place.
- Reimbursement. Physician services are billed under the German medical fee schedule (Gebührenordnung für Ärzte, GOÄ). German private health insurers and Beihilfe reimburse them depending on your plan. Only your insurer can give you a binding answer.
How does an osteopathic session work?
The first appointment begins with a detailed conversation and a physical examination. The treatment itself is carried out with the hands – calm, precise, and adapted to your situation. A session usually lasts 45 to 60 minutes. Whether follow-up appointments make sense, and at what interval, is something we decide together; often several weeks lie between treatments. What interval makes sense depends on how you feel. After one to three sessions it is usually possible to judge whether the treatment is helping you – there is no ongoing commitment.
A particular focus: people in motion
From many years of my own experience in professional dance, I know the demands placed on trained bodies first-hand. Dancers – whether professional or passionate amateurs – and physically active people are expressly welcome in my practice.
What does an osteopathic session cost?
Billing follows the GOÄ according to the actual scope of the session. You receive a written cost overview before treatment begins; details on reimbursement can be found under fees & reimbursement.
Statutory insurance with a supplementary policy? Many osteopathy top-up plans also contribute towards treatment by a physician with osteopathic training. You are welcome to receive the written cost overview in advance so that you can have reimbursement checked.
