Fees & reimbursement
Fees & reimbursement
Praxis Gite is a private practice without statutory health insurance accreditation (Privatpraxis ohne Kassenzulassung). That means: more time per appointment, free choice of diagnostics – and billing you know about in advance. This page sets out the essentials on fees and reimbursement.
How is treatment billed?
All physician services are billed under the German medical fee schedule (Gebührenordnung für Ärzte, GOÄ) – with a fee code and a multiplier, depending on the effort and difficulty of the individual case. Flat rates or package prices are not legally permitted for physician services; what is binding is always the individual agreement. So that you can still plan, the rule in my practice is: before every course of treatment begins, you receive a written cost overview for the procedure we have agreed.
Who reimburses what?
- Privately insured patients: German private health insurers reimburse GOÄ physician services in full or in part, depending on your plan. Osteopathic treatment carried out by a physician is billed as a physician service. Only your insurer can give you a binding answer – if in doubt, send them the cost overview in advance.
- Patients entitled to Beihilfe: Beihilfe reimburses physician services under the applicable Beihilfe regulations; depending on the policy, your private top-up insurance may cover the remaining share.
- Patients with statutory insurance: you are expressly welcome here. As a self-payer you pay exactly the same GOÄ rates as privately insured patients, with no surcharge, and all services of the practice are open to you. Statutory health insurers generally do not reimburse private medical services; some supplementary policies (e.g. for natural medicine or osteopathy) do contribute – it is worth checking your contract.
- Internationally insured patients and expats: you are very welcome as a self-payer. You pay the invoice directly and receive an itemised GOÄ invoice that you can submit to your own insurer or employer scheme for reimbursement; invoices can be issued in English on request, and I am happy to add a short English summary of the diagnosis and services rendered. Whether and to what extent your policy reimburses treatment abroad or by a private physician in Germany is something only your insurer can confirm – please clarify this in advance if the amount matters to you.
Why a private practice?
As a private practice I plan appointments around the scope of what brings you here: an initial consultation lasts 60 to 90 minutes, a follow-up 45 to 60 minutes – time for the medical history, the examination, and the explanation. Which diagnostics make sense follows from the question being asked. Billing is under the GOÄ, for the medical services actually provided.
What does an appointment cost?
For orientation – these figures cover the medical consultation with examination:
- Initial consultation (60 to 90 minutes): approximately 140 euros
- Follow-up and review appointments (45 to 60 minutes): approximately 120 euros
These are orientation values, not fixed prices. Billing follows the German medical fee schedule (GOÄ); what applies are the services actually provided and the respective multiplier. The individual invoice is therefore always what governs – and you receive a written cost overview before treatment begins.
